Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) Testing

Auditory Processing refers to the way the brain processes, interprets and makes sense of the sounds we hear. A person can have normal hearing but still experience difficulties understanding and processing auditory information. These difficulties may be associated with Auditory Processing Disorder (APD).

At Southern Hearing Care in Ballarat, we provide Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) testing for children aged 7 years and older and adults. An APD assessment can help identify specific areas of auditory processing difficulty and provide a better understanding of how these difficulties may be affecting communication, learning, work and everyday listening.

Auditory processing difficulties can affect people in different ways. Common signs may include:

  • Difficulty understanding speech, particularly in noisy environments

  • Difficulty following verbal instructions

  • Poor auditory memory, attention or concentration

  • Learning difficulties or challenges at school

  • Speech and language delays

  • Frequently asking for information to be repeated

  • Difficulty listening when there are multiple sounds or distractions

What does testing involve?

APD testing is conducted over two appointments. The assessment includes a range of specialised listening tasks designed to assess different aspects of auditory processing.

If you have any questions about APD testing, pricing or appointments, please contact Grace on 0429 785 231 or email [email protected] to discuss.
